As a modern Muslim, I am frightened by the Archbishop of Canterbury’s call for Britain to accept elements of Sharia law. As a woman, it is horrifying. Introducing it here - to whatever degree - is just going to divide and polarise sections of the community when what we should be doing is integrating.
Some of the more extreme Muslims will look at me and say, “You can’t call yourself a Muslim because you only take the parts of the religion which suit you”. Well, my answer is how can you take only parts of Sharia law, as is now being discussed?
What they want eventually is to stone people, cut off hands for theft and ban homosexuality. People who want Sharia law want the whole thing and then you have to look at the barbarity of the punishments and the lack of human rights. It’s difficult even to speak out against these things because you then become a target yourself.
