Just a month after she deemed David Munchinski’s conviction in a 1978 double-murder unworthy of confidence, a federal judge ordered the former Latrobe man’s release after 25 years in prison as he awaits an appeal over an order for a new trial. “I don’t think he should have been convicted,” Chief U.S. District Magistrate Lisa Pupo Lenihan of the Western District of Pennsylvania said during an hour-long hearing Friday before she ordered the release of the sickly 59 year-old. Munchinski has been imprisoned since 1986 after his Fayette County convictions in a double killing that has been known as the “Bear Rocks Murders.”
