Daniel Pipes: Annapolis Blues

As a rule, successful negotiations require a common aim; in management-labor talks, for example, both sides want to get back to work. When a shared premise is lacking, not only do negotiations usually fail, but they usually do more harm than good. Such is the case in the forthcoming Annapolis, Maryland, talks. One side (Israel) seeks peaceful coexistence while the other (the Arabs) seeks to eliminate its negotiating partner, as evidenced by its violent actions, its voting patterns, replies to polls, political rhetoric, media messages, school textbooks, mosque sermons, wall graffiti, and much else.

Liberals and Islamo-Fascism

Liberals believe in burning the American flag, urinating on crucifixes, and passing out birth control pills to 11-year-olds without telling their parents—but God forbid an infidel touch a Quran at Guantanamo. College campuses across the nation are installing foot baths to accommodate Muslims’ daily bathing ritual, while surgically removing the Ten Commandments from every public space in America. Maybe the Ten Commandments could be printed on towels and kept next to the foot baths.

Women’s Rights and Political Islam

At the University of Bradford, I was in charge of a women’s studies major. We had several Asian women, as the Pakistani and Indian women were called, on the course. I soon learned that all of them were being pressured to drop out of school and accept arranged marriages. They were guilt-tripped, threatened, and sometimes beaten. I soon realized that staying enrolled at the university was the only thing that helped them maintain a moderate level of freedom and independence. If they dropped out, they would be forced into marriage. A couple of the women couldn’t resist the constant pressure. They came to my office and told me they were dropping out of school and accepting their family’s plans for them. They tried to put a good face on it. http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/Read.aspx?GUID=A6EE6258-B07B-4EE4-9D03-FAAB39A4F5A5

“A do-it-yourself Hitler kit”

From the H-Bomb to the Human Bomb

“A pitiless new day is dawning. The powers of the inhuman and the efficacy of hatreds mutate dangerously. A generation that worked diligently to tame the threat of nuclear war finds itself driven toward a horizon more frightening to contemplate than the one it dreamed of avoiding. Now it must try again to think the unthinkable, to leave the era of the H-bomb and enter the time of the human bomb.”

Die Meldung stammt von Futurist Update (News & Previews from the World Future Society November 2007, Vol. 8, No. 11): Ten countries most on track to meet Millennium Development Goals to reduce hunger are Cuba, Kuwait, Fiji, Peru, Uruguay, Egypt, Tunisia, Djibouti, Syria, and Iran. Regionally, prospects are particularly bright in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as in East Asia and the Pacific, according to the latest Global Hunger Index, produced by the International Food Policy Research Institute…
