«The debate is over», die Debatte ist vorüber, scheint zu einem epidemischen Satz zu werden. Erstmals wurde er einst vom obersten amerikanischen Gesundheitsschützer Richard Carmona verwendet, als er behauptete, Passivrauchen sei ein ernsthaftes Gesundheitsrisiko. Nun, diese Debatte scheint nicht vorbei zu sein. Es gibt immer noch Passivraucher, die den Duft der grossen Welt lieben. Der Klima-Alarmist Al Gore liebt diesen Satz geradezu. Bei seiner ersten Ansage drohte uns allen noch ein meterweiser Anstieg des Meeresspiegels. Bei jeder weiteren Ankündigung, die Debatte sei vorüber, scheint sich der drohende Meeresspiegel zu senken. In der neuesten Ausgabe des «International Journal of Climatology of the Royal Meteorological Society» steht zudem, CO2 habe nur einen vernachlässigbaren Einfluss auf unser Klima…

Global warming stopped? Surely not. What heresy is this? Haven’t we been told that the science of global warming is settled beyond doubt and that all that’s left to the so-called sceptics is the odd errant glacier that refuses to melt?

Aren’t we told that if we don’t act now rising temperatures will render most of the surface of the Earth uninhabitable within our lifetimes? But as we digest these apocalyptic comments, read the recent IPCC’s Synthesis report that says climate change could become irreversible. Witness the drama at Bali as news emerges that something is not quite right in the global warming camp.

With only few days remaining in 2007, the indications are the global temperature for this year is the same as that for 2006 – there has been no warming over the 12 months.

OK, so there hasn’t been any great increase in potential intensity of tropical cyclones over the long run, despite what the global warming advocates would lead you to believe. Well, you could suggest that like everything else, the disaster will reveal itself a decade or so from now. Unfortunately for such optimists (or are they pessimists?), Vecchi and Soden calculated PI for the next 150 years, and as seen below, SSTs are expected to rise, but in the North Indian Ocean and the tropical Atlantic Ocean, there should be no rise whatsoever in potential intensity of hurricanes.

Let’s all wait and see if the global warming crowd (or the media) embraces these results – of course they won’t and of course they will continue to scream that hurricanes are becoming more intense and will become even more intense in the decades to come. The...

Der heute 65-jährige Politiker Perinçek hatte im Jahr 2005 zunächst in Lausanne, später dann auch im Kanton Zürich und in Köniz bei Bern in Vorträgen den Völkermord an den Armeniern von 1915 durch das osmanische Reich als internationale Lüge bezeichnet. Im März 2007 verurteilte das Waadtländer Polizeigericht Perinçek deshalb wegen Rassendiskriminierung. Perinçek focht dieses Urteil an.
