Sir Antony Jay: ‘Yes Minister’ co-creator attacks ‘biased’ BBC
Sir Antony, one of the co-creators of Yes Minister, has launched an outspoken attack on the BBC, claiming it is biased on issues such as climate change. The 81 year-old, a former producer at the public broadcaster, said his former employer had become too powerful and called for its size to be substantially cut. Among his criticisms were that the organisation’s values were in contrast to the principle of private profit and the monarchy while adding that it provided too many services. He repeated his previous comments on its size, saying that all radio stations, apart from Radio 4, should be scrapped as well as all television stations other than BBC One. Sir Antony was speaking at the launch of a report by the Global Warming Policy Foundation, which claims the BBC is biased over climate change. “If you believe in a free country and a free press, why do we have a state broadcasting system at all?” he said.
