Climate Delayers Win Durban Battle: Let’s Keep Talking
As expected, climate delayers won the battle at the U.N. climate talks in Durban early on Sunday. They succeeded in delaying any decision on CO2 emissions caps for years to come. There is now little prospect of a global agreement before 2020. In any case, the West would have to cough up £100 billion per year before anyone will sign up to anything. The climate delayers have been successful in pursuing a shrewd wait-and-see strategy which has now been enshrined as the only game in town of climate Realpolitik.
