Aus Atom- mach Ökostrom: Nach Informationen des SPIEGEL tricksen europäische Stromanbieter ihre Kunden gezielt aus. Sie etikettieren Atom- oder Kohlestrom einfach in Ökostrom um. Eine legale Praxis, die durch Ökozertifikate möglich ist.

Wie das geht? Ein Stromversorger kauft Strom an der Börse, etwa aus dem AKW Krümmel, für 7 Cent je Kilowattstunde. Den veredelt er dann mit einem Ökozertifikat eines norwegischen Wasserkraftwerks, was ihn lediglich noch mal 0,05 Cent pro Kilowattstunde kostet. Seinen Graustrom darf er dann als Ökostrom verkaufen. Der norwegische Betreiber muss im Gegenzug die entsprechende Menge seines Ökostroms dann in konventionell erzeugten Strom umetikettieren. Diesen für Stromkunden in etlichen europäischen Ländern wenig transparenten Tausch ermöglicht das “Renewable Energy Certificate System” (RECS).

A major environmental debate is underway in the United Kingdom, with plans approved to build England’s first coal-fuelled power station in more than two decades.

Those behind the project say it will use cutting edge technology to tackle emissions; those against it say it’s a huge step backwards.

It’s more than twenty years since the UK’s last coal-fired power station was built, and the dash for gas began.

The energy-saving light bulbs that will be made compulsory in homes in a few years can trigger migraines, campaigners have claimed.

The Migraine Action Association (MAA) said some of its members alleged the fluorescent bulbs had led to attacks of the powerful headaches.

By 2011, Britain will be the first European country to phase out traditional bulbs as part of a strategy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

intuitiv hätte ich jetzt auf jacques chirac getippt, 1977, bürgermeisterwahlen, rpr finanzierung, excocet & mirage, da war der saddam jene “respectable figure”, sogar “ein persönlicher freund”. doch das zitat lässt sich leicht im orginal ergooglen. es ist von einem gewissen Ian McCluney, britischer Sozialist, “nah-ost-beauftragter” der damaligen regierung (und irgendwie old-labour-parteitechnisch verschwistert oder verschwägert mit den baathisten?) und heute - konsequenterweise - ein großer blair- und irakkriegs- und-natürlich-bush-gegner :) - also der personifizierte weitblick qua erfahrung…
